By Request

Per request of Robin from Autumn Harvest, I'm posting the recipe for:

Mrs. Twylah's Sour Cream Pound Cake

2 sticks butter
3 cups sugar
6 eggs
1 cup sour cream (8 oz. container)
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla, almond or lemon extract

Preheat oven to 325° F. Grease well and flour a 10" tube pan, bundt pan or 2 loaf pans.

Sift flour with soda. Cream butter, add the sugar slowly. Beat to cream well (10 to 15 minutes). Add eggs one at a time. Stir in the sour cream. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Beat well and constantly. Stir in extract. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Let set in pan 5 minutes, turn out on rack and let cool completely. Enjoy!

See my post entitled A Sweet Memory for my story about this pound cake.

  1. Dear Laurie,

Thank you! This sounds like it would be an awesome birthday cake. I may just have to share the recipe with my daughters for my 42nd birthday in September. It sounds *incredible*! If not for that, we will have to make it this autumn. :)

I wish I could have joined you in celebrating Tasha Tudor's birthday. What a wonderful woman she was. You've inspired me to read more about her. I remember my friend Jenny (the friend I wrote about in the "In Memory" link at the top of my blog) speaking of her when we lived in Germany. As it was you had and excellent companion! :)

    Have a wonderful Monday, Laurie!

P.S. Did you know that my blog was called "Homekeeping Hearts" for about a year? :)

  2. Hey Robin,

Tell me what day your birthday is!!!

I gave Lindsey the book, "A Time To Keep" by Tasha Tudor when she was about 4 years old. We've researched her many times and have always been inspired by her life. I did read your post about your dear friend Jenny, she must have been a wonderful and inspiring woman in her own right. And you knew her personally.

Homekeeping Heart has been my theme for many years. I don't remember if I mentioned it but I homeschooled Lindsey. We named our little school Homekeeping Hearts Academy. Great minds think alike!!

  5. Oh Yum!

I adore pound cake and would happily have devoured that one had I been within fifty feet of it. All self control and good sense leaves me when I am faced with a moist and sweet pound cake.

    Heaven!

    Blessings!
    Lacy
